I joined Shaner Sportsmen last fall, mostly to have a place to go archery hunting. I spent my season hunting in the Nasser’s leased land and thoroughly enjoyed the quiet woods, the numerous deer and the companionship of many other quality hunters. Last Saturday at 1:30pm, on the last day of regular archery season, I finally had my chance at the buck pictured. I had been seeing him for several weeks but this was my first clear shot. I’m pretty certain that he was fooled by the doe in heat urine that I had in scent bombs. By his behavior, the size of his neck and his strong odor, we all agreed that he was in rut. With the help of two fellow Shaner SC members, I was finally able to drag this heavy buck to the truck by night fall. My legs are still recovering.
Warm regards and full freezers,
